Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle had been pitted against each other, especially when the Sussexes were still working royals. It has been nearly three years after Prince Harry and Markle stepped back from their royal duties, but the two duchesses are still linked to each other due to their royal husbands. A royal commentator claimed that the Princess of Wales was sending her sister-in-law a message on Remembrance Day.

Kate Middleton Sent Meghan Markle A Message With Her Choice Of Jewelry At Remembrance Day Service?

The Duchess of Cambridge joined Queen Consort Camilla on the balcony of the Foreign Office overlooking the Cenotaph, where wreaths were laid by the King. Both female royals donned black outfits as they marked the National Service of Remembrance on Nov. 13.

Middleton honored the late Queen Elizabeth at the event by wearing Bahrain pearl drop earrings and four-strand pearl choker necklace. Middleton reportedly received the set of jewelry directly from Her Majesty, Marca reported.

Royal commentator Daniela Elser claimed that the jewelry was designed to send a "painful message" to Markle.

"Now, on their own, Kate popping on jewels valued at more than the gross GDP of a small country is about newsworthy as finding out that King Charles has decided to launch an initiative to save an endangered breed of badger or Queen Camilla is busy trying to remember which state carriage she left her favourite lighter in," Elser commented (per Marca). "Where things get interesting is when you bring Meghan, Duchess of Sussex into the mix."

Elser pointed out that both duchesses wore a similar set of earrings but in different sizes during the Queen's funeral. "Same same but not at all," Elser said about Middleton and Markle's earrings at the time. According to her, there was a "vast discrepancy", and it was obvious.

"While Kate's pair are honking great pieces that on anyone else you would assume are plastic fakes they are so large, Meghan's pair, while elegant and a very thoughtful gift from the late nonagenarian, are comparatively tiddly," she added.

"In this case, size does matter. There is also the question of their history and significance."

Meghan Markle Doesn't Possess Any Significant Heirloom From Queen's Vault?

The outlet noted that the jewelry that Middleton wore at the event was given to her. On the other hand, the Duchess of Sussex reportedly doesn't possess any significant heirlooms from the Queen's vault.

While the former Suits star has some pieces from her late mother-in-law Princess Diana, she doesn't have "any precious trinkets on permanent loan from the royal family's collection," Elser said.

"In fact, the only piece of jewellery definitely lent to Meghan by Queen Elizabeth was the Queen Mary bandeau tiara for her big day, but that too has been a source of controversy," the commentator added.

Robert Lacey claimed in his book Battle of Brothers that the Queen felt the need to say "no" to Markle's first tiara choice. Prince Harry allegedly "flew into a rage," prompting the Queen to tell her grandson, "Meghan cannot have whatever she wants. She gets the tiara that she's given by me."

Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie had another take on the story in their book, Finding Freedom. According to them, when reports about her tiara made headlines, she called a friend and told them, "How sad, I love my tiara."

Aside from not owning any item from the Queen's vault, Markle has reportedly not worn any jewelry from the Royal Collection since her 2018 royal wedding to Prince Harry.
