Kate Middleton and Prince Harry used to be very close. In fact, during their separate interviews years ago, the in-laws did nothing but praise and make fun of each other. But in recent years, the Princess of Wales and the Duke of Sussex's relationship became distant and frosty.

According to Newsweek, Prince Harry leaned on Kate Middleton years after the death of Princess Diana. While he was still coming to terms with his mother's death, Middleton gladly filled the gap left by the former Princess of Wales.
And when Prince William and Middleton tied the knot, Meghan Markle's husband gave his sister-in-law a touching shout-out that made her tear up.
"There was no filling the hole left by Diana's death, and Harry seemed to be growing up without someone emotionally available he could lean on. Kate has helped fill some of that gap. When she and William got engaged, Harry called her the big sister he never had. He often pops into their apartment at Kensington Palace, where she cooks him a meal—roast chicken is reportedly a particular favorite," the publication said.

Kate Middleton And Prince Harry's Relationship Frosty, Distant?
But over the years, Middleton and Prince Harry seemingly distanced themselves from each other amid the latter's feud with Prince William. Even though it was never Middleton's intention to take sides, her loyalty seems to lie with her husband.
While speaking with Express, body language expert, Judi James said that Middleton and Prince Harry's relationship can only be spoken about in the past tense because it is inexistent.
"Kate's closest friendship in the royal family is, sadly, one that only exists only in the past tense. Her strongest relationship signals, apart from with [Prince William], were always with Harry. He was 'the man who called her his 'Big Sister' and the royal with whom she appeared most relaxed and able to reveal her fun side. Sadly, their future appearances became frosty and distanced, one of the biggest casualties of the rift between the brothers," she said.
Prince William Thought Meghan Markle Had A Big Personality During Their First Meeting?
Meanwhile, royal author Judi James reacted to Markle's revelations in Harry & Meghan with regard to her initial relationship with Prince William and Middleton. The Duchess of Sussex suggested that the royal couple might have found her too much because she was a hugger and didn't know how to interact with the members of the royal family.
"Meghan's recollection of meeting William and Kate for the first time rings very true to me because I remember speaking to my sources when I was researching my book about those early meetings and being told that William did find her a big personality, and clearly, Meghan said she went in for the hugs and everything else. She'd expected the formality that she recognized in them as a royal couple sort of not be extended behind the closed doors of Kensington Palace, and in fact, it was, and so, I think our suspicions about this being a pretty cool relationship right from the start have been confirmed here," she told Entertainment Tonight.
