Kate Middleton and Prince William have already informed their eldest son, Prince George, about his future role in the monarchy. However, some believed that he might not see that day coming because the future of the British monarchy is uncertain.

Queen Elizabeth is celebrating her 70 years on the throne this week. She is the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

The 96-year-old Queen is loved and supported by the public. However, many aren't sure if the same support will be extended to her heir, Prince Charles. Some even believed that the monarchy would end with Prince William. So, Kate Middleton and Prince William's son, Prince George, might not see the light of day when he will be crowned king of Britain.

Graham Smith, CEO of Republic, a political organization advocating to replace the monarch with a parliamentary republic, said in an article in Express that the Queen's Platinum Jubilee could be its "last hurrah."

He cited a poll where the support for the royal family dropped from 75 percent to 60 percent in a decade. Also, he believed the monarchy's popularity will drop after the Queen's reign.

"Queen is the most popular royal by a mile, so after the succession of King Charles we can expect those numbers to fall off a cliff. It’s all looking grim for the monarchy," he wrote.

He noted that in Canada, the most loyal of the realms, only 50 percent support the monarchy. Also, eight of the remaining Commonwealth realms are in the Caribbean, and all of them want to be republics over the next decade.

"Whether its shifting cultural and social values, political crises or the failures of the royals, the tide is turning against the monarchy," Smith continued. "With William just turning 40, it could be another 60 years before Prince George ascends to the throne, by then already approaching old age."

Monarchy Might Be Abolished Before Kate Middleton, Prince William's Son, Takes Over The Throne

Smith wasn't the only one who predicted the future dim future of the monarchy after Queen Elizabeth. British writer Hilary Mantel echoed the same sentiment, she believed that the monarchy could be abolished after two generations — Prince Charles and Prince William.

In an article titled Hilary Mantel: why Prince George won't be king in The Times, Mantel said that the third in line to the throne might not have the chance to be king because the royals are now seen as "celebrities."

"I think it's a fair prediction, but let's say I wouldn't put money on it. It's very hard to understand the thinking behind the monarchy in the modern world when people are just seen as celebrities," Mantel told The Times.

Nadine Batchelor-Hunt, s political correspondent at Joe.co.uk,  also called to abolish the monarchy saying the royals are "becoming increasingly out of place in contemporary society" due to the strings of scandals the members of the firm were involved in, including Prince Andrew.

"The time has come: let's abolish the monarchy," she wrote in March 2021.
