Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have been pitted against each other due to their roles in the royal family even after the Sussexes stepped back from their duties. A royal expert pointed out the differences between the two duchesses.
Kate Middleton And Meghan Markle Are Reportedly 'Inverted Versions Of Each Other'
Historian, broadcaster and writer Tessa Dunlop spoke about the Princess of Wales and Duchess of Sussex. According to her, they are very different.
She said Prince William's wife has "spent years training, without even realizing it" for her role in the firm.
She noted that Middleton had been in training for decades, considering her background and upbringing as opposed to her sister-in-law, who grew up in the United States.
Dunlop told OK!:
"Kate’s values were deference, appropriate levels of self possession within a system, don’t rock the boat, you make change through embracing the institution almost, the paradox, Meghan's the other way around - they're totally like inverted versions of each other."
She noted the two ladies' characters and how Middleton is "well-mannered" compared to Markle, who grew up in the spotlight.
She added that Middleton is not the type who dishes family issues with the public. She said this about the future queen consort in a recent interview:
"Kate is a well-mannered girl, she got brought up in a public school, she’s never going to dish the dirt, she’s never going to give what others want, no matter how often you pick the scab. There’s going to be a lid on that relationship and it will remain decorous in public."
Meanwhile, she stressed that Markle "came from Hollywood." The former actress was raised in a competitive environment where people climb over each other.
She said this of Markle's environment:
"But it's a very different environment. Hollywood, it's about climbing over other people to get that role, to get the gig, to improve the rating to be better than the next one - that's ambition."
How's Meghan Markle And Kate Middleton's Relationship?
Dunlop believed that the two duchesses were never close despite being close in age. According to her, their relationship is "frosty but it's polite."
Prince Harry spoke about his wife and sister-in-law's relationship in his memoir Spare. He claimed that when the attention shifted to the former actress, the future queen consort was "forced to compete with Meg."
In his book, he claimed how Middleton grimaced when Markle borrowed her lip gloss.
Prince Harry wrote, per News.com.au:
"I think it had Kate on edge while putting her and everyone else on notice that she was now going to be compared to, and forced to compete with, Meg."

Meanwhile, Markle spoke about Middleton in their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan and claimed her sister-in-law was not a hugger. However, an anonymous insider debunked Markle's claim telling People that Middleton is a "big hugger."
A friend of Middleton said:
"Kate's a big hugger. She is warm and friendly and greets everyone with a big hug and kiss. It comes naturally to her to be like that."
