From an unknown contestant on a TV show competition, Karol G is now one of the most famous reggaeton singers and songwriters. She has come a long way from her The X Factor days to a successful artist today.
Though born and raised in Colombia, Karol G managed to enter the American music scene. In fact, she has several international hit songs to her name. With that said, how does this make the 31-year-old star one of the wealthiest performers of today?
The Start of Karol G’s Colorful Career
The hitmaker was only 14 when she competed on the Colombian version of The X Factor, making her famous nationally.
After a few years, she finally secured her first record deal with Flamingo Records and Diamond Music. Real name Carolina Giraldo Navarro, she chose Karol G as her stage name.
She quickly released her songs “En La Playa,” “Por Ti,” “Dime Que Si,” and “Mil Maneras” after signing her contract.

She also worked as backup vocals while studying at the University of Antioquia, particularly for the reggaeton performer Reykon.
After failing to sign with Universal Records due to the belief that female artists couldn’t succeed in the reggaeton genre, she toured throughout Colombia at festivals, colleges and clubs.
She worked hard to promote herself and it finally came to fruition when she collaborated with the rapper Nicky Jam in 2013.
Come 2014, she moved to New York City and studied music business administration. At the time, her song “Ricos Besos” was already a hit in Colombia and after two years, she signed to Universal Music Latin Entertainment.

She then released the songs "Hello," "Casi Nada" and "Muñeco de Lego."
Karol G’s Big Breakthrough
Starting in May 2017, Karol G’s life dramatically changed. She collaborated with the Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny for the song “Ahora Me Llama” at the time and it quickly dominated the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.
It later became her lead single for her debut studio album, Unstoppable, which dropped in October 2017.
In 2018, she released more hits, with "Mi Cama" and "Culpables.” The latter song featured Anuel AA.
In early 2019, she worked with Anuel AA again for the new single “Secreto.” Her second studio album, Ocean, came out and made it to the Billboard 200.

It featured the songs "Pineapple," "Culpables," Mi Cama," "Punto G" and "Créeme." She then recorded “China” with Anuel AA, Ozuna, J Balvin and Daddy Yankee and it became a huge hit.
She then released “Tusa” from her album K0516, featuring Nicki Minaj.
Come 2020, she dropped a new single, “Follow,” and collaborated with the Jonas Brothers for the song “X.”
This year, her song “Mamiii,” a collaboration with Becky G, became a big hit that made it to the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100.
With this success, Karol G is now worth $8 million, per Celebrity Net Worth.
