Jurassic World Dominion Preview Stomps Its Way Onto YouTube

Just a few months ago, 'Jurassic World: Dominion' director Colin Trevorrow promised that we'd be getting a trailer-of-sorts for the upcoming sixth installment in the blockbuster dinosaur franchise. But what we got was even better - a special five-minute theatrical 'Jurassic World: Dominion' preview, which was shown alongside 'Fast & Furious 9' in IMAX!

However, not everyone got to see the short film that is being dubbed as the "prologue to 'Jurassic World: Dominion'." The COVID-19 pandemic was still pretty much in full swing at the time, and many people were still avoiding going to the theaters, while others simply didn't want to have to sit through a 'Fast & Furious' sequel just to see the five-minute 'Jurassic World: Dominion' preview.

Now, the wait is finally over - the short film has finally been (officially) released onto YouTube for all to see. And to those who are expecting a glorified trailer, this is actually a legitimate short film that serves as the 'opening scene' to 'Jurassic World: Dominion', which hits theaters on June 10, 2022. But whether or not this preview will actually form part of the film itself is unknown.

Nevertheless, this film definitely sets the stage for what's to come, although it does a little more than lay the foundations for 'Jurassic World: Dominion'. In fact, it's the first prequel in the entire franchise, but unlike any other prequel in movie history, whether it's 'Star Wars' or 'Fantastic Beasts', the 'Jurassic World: Dominion' preview actually goes back in time by 65 million years!

This easily makes it the only prequel that goes this far back in time (that we can think of!). But don't worry - we haven't gotten into spoilers just yet, as this was all revealed in the short trailer we got for the preview a few months ago. However, if you want to go into 'Jurassic World: Dominion' completely blind, then we're going to advise that you stop reading very shortly. But if you want to whet your appetite for all things Jurassic (or should we say 'Cretaceous'), then keep on reading.

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for the 'Jurassic World: Dominion' preview!

After director Colin Trevorrow gives us an introduction to the preview, we see the Universal logo, but earth's continents look very different. From the mother continent 'Pangaea', before the great continental drift, we cut to a frame reminiscent of Disney's 'The Lion King', which introduces us to a sunset savannah, not unlike the Pride Lands. We have been transported 65 million years back in time.

And though not entirely obvious from the next frame, this Cretaceous landscape is teeming with dinosaurs. A mosquito lands on the thick legs of a sauropod - of which there are many moving across the land and in the water. Nearby, a Quetzalcoatlus lands and picks flesh from a carcass in the waterhole. Ankylosaurs snort as they drink from the lake, while pteranodons perch with their young on a rocky cliff overhead. Meanwhile, in a shallow cave, an oviraptor feasts on an egg.

We then see a herd of hundreds of Nasutoceratops, which seem to be migrating. Then, a Moros Intrepidus (which is essentially a feathered raptor-like dinosaur) is feasting on something that is quickly revealed to be the jaws of a super predator known as a giganotosaurus. The carnivore flexes its jaws and frightens a grazing iguanodon, before getting down to business with a (feathered) tyrannosaurus rex.

However, the t-rex is the loser this time around, which might remind you of the ill-fated t-rex in 'Jurassic Park III' - although this is likely to foreshadow the new present day prehistoric villain in 'Jurassic World: Dominion'. As the rex lies dead on the earth, a mosquito lands on its flesh and drinks its blood.

We then arrive at the present day, 65 million years later, and 'Rexy' - who escaped at the end of 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' - is crashing through the Sierra Nevada Forest as she's pursued by a helicopter, which inadvertently herds her into a drive-thru cinema, where guests get a full view of the enormous beast as she unleashes her iconic roar in full view of the movie screen.

Soon, she's chased back into the forest. The pilot tells the other, "Settle down kid - she can't run forever," which no doubt leans into plot elements for 'Jurassic World: Dominion', in which humans will be trying to round up all the escaped dinosaurs, but failing miserably.

As the preview ends, we're treated to a snippet of the movie's epic new score, which shares some tonal similarities with that of 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom'. We then see the words "To be continued in cinemas 2022."

The latest 'Jurassic' sequel is easily one of the most anticipated movies of 2022, as it marks the sixth installment in the franchise and the concluding chapter in the 'Jurassic World' trilogy. It will also see the return of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, as well as OG 'Jurassic Park' actors Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.

The end of 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' saw several dinosaurs being released onto mainland America. That film was followed up with the eight-minute preview 'Battle at Big Rock', which gave us a snapshot of what life was like a year after the event. Now, it looks like we're about to see what the world is like four years after 'Fallen Kingdom', as man and dinosaur have finally been "thrown into the mix" together, as Dr. Alan Grant once so eloquently put it.

During the film's production, many locations were teased, including a snowy setting, which will be a first for the franchise. As for specific plot details, these are unknown, but perhaps the less we know the better, especially after the trailer for 'Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom' inexplicably showed us every single final frame of the film. But what we do know is that we will finally see what life is like when dinosaurs rule the earth...
