Judge Dredd Series is ‘Ready to Go’ but COVID-19 is Delaying Production

Dredd was actually a critical darling when it came out back in 2012, but the franchise has been dead with plans to make a spinoff series called Mega City One. What's interesting is, the Dredd spinoff is ‘ready to go' but showrunners are waiting for COVID-19 to die out before they can start rolling cameras.

Talking to V2A – Freak Show, Dredd producer Jason Kingsley has confirmed that scripts and sets have been ready for Mega City One, but the virus has currently put everything on hold. Here's the interview:

We don't know exactly what the plot of Mega City One is, but it's probably set in the same continuity as the 2012 Dredd movie. Kingsley himself has said that he would like for Karl Urban to make a guest appearance on the show, as well as the first onscreen Dredd Sylvester Stallone.

We don't know where the show is set to debut, but Kingsley has confirmed that he has been in talks with multiple streaming platforms. He didn't mention which ones were going to eventually gets rights to the show, but I have a feeling that Amazon Prime Video would want in on it since they have Karl Urban in one of their shows—The Boys.

If anything, Dredd felt a lot like The Raid (2011) where a few protagonists find themselves trapped in a building and have to fight off hordes of gangsters; the movie even came out a year after Raid did. While it was a unique premise, it would be interesting to get to see more of Mega City One and get more on the lore of these Judges that roam the streets.

No release date has been set for Mega City One, but you can catch Urban in The Boys Season 2 which comes out Sept. 4 on Amazon Prime Video.
