Jon Favreau's The Lion King is Now The Highest-Grossing Animated Film of All Time

Jon Favreau's The Lion King got a lot of flak when it came out, and a lot of critics online have been talking about how it was a "soulless" remake. It seems that audiences disagree though, as the film has now earned enough to be the highest-grossing animated film of all time.

According to IGN,The Lion King has now earned a whopping $1.335 billion in the worldwide box office, not only making it the highest-grossing animated film of all time but the highest-grossing Disney remake. Before The Lion King, the title belonged to Frozen which had earned $1.277 billion.

When it came to its harshest critics, a lot of people thought that the biggest problem with The Lion King was that the characters couldn't emote like the animation could—somewhat detaching audiences with scenes like Mufasa's death. What's more, all the colorful musical scenes have been replaced with characters just running. Let's also not forget that Can You Feel the Love Tonight was a scene that happened in the daylight.

Not to mention the movie totally botched the treatment for Scar's Be Prepared:

I agree with what the critics said as well, but when it comes to remakes, I think I like this one the best. It was exactly what I expected it to be, and I thought the reason why it's so successful is that it's the story that ultimately resonates with the audiences. At least it didn't add any weird scenes as Aladdin did.
