Recently, Warner Bros. officially announced that they are moving forward with the sequel to 2019's Joker titled Joker: Folie à Deux with a 2024 release date. Joaquin Phoenix has also been confirmed to reprise his Oscar-winning role and he will be joined by Lady Gaga, who will reportedly play his girlfriend Harley Quinn.

Now, it looks like another cast member from the first film is also set to return in the sequel as Deadline has reported that Zazie Beetz is in talks to reprise her role as Sophie Dumond in the sequel. During the first film, the character was initially seen as Arthur Fleck's neighbor who became his love interest before it was revealed that their romance was just a delusion in his mind.

Todd Phillips is also returning to direct and co-write the sequel. Production is set to begin this December ahead of its fall 2024 theatrical release. The film is reportedly going to be a musical that was speculated by Gaga's casting and hinted in the teaser video that she released on her social media.

It is interesting to hear that Beetz is returning in the sequel and there is a chance that she will have a significant role in the story of the follow-up film. It would be curious to see what kind of involvement she'll end up having and whether she will cross paths again with Arthur, which might set a dangerous path for her fate.

It is unknown yet if there are other cast members from the first film who will also return in the sequel. There is a possibility that they'll also bring back the younger Alfred Pennyworth and Bruce Wayne and see their response to the end of the first film. At this point, there are a lot of possibilities in their direction.
