Chris Evans has become iconic in the role of Captain America ever since he started playing him in 2011. A lot of fans would even say at this point that they can't imagine any actor play the Marvel hero besides him. Prior to his casting, there were several known actors who were in contention for the role such as John Krasinski and Ryan Phillippe. Supernatural star Jensen Ackles was also rumored to be among the names on the list. But is true at all that he was in the running?
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ackles was asked about the long-time rumor that he auditioned to play Captain America in the MCU to which he clarified that he actually did not put himself up to be in contention. "Did I audition for Captain America? No, I did not," he revealed. "I don't necessarily know, was that an auditioning kind of a thing? I feel like they just met with people on that."
Ackles also explained that he "never got the opportunity to even talk to anybody" regarding the possibility of auditioning to play Captain America because of his busy schedule (perhaps referring to his starring role in the hit series Supernatural).
"I was not available, anyway. So, I don't think they were going to work around my schedule. Doesn't seem like a kind of property that would do that," he continued. "I would've loved to have been in the mix on that because Chris [Evans] and I used to go against each other for quite a bit on a lot of different things back in the day. But, unfortunately, I didn't get to fight him on that one."
While Ackles was never in contention to play the hero, he still somehow found a way to play a Captain America-esque character in the upcoming third season of The Boys through the role of Soldier Boy, the series' satirical take on the Sentinel of Liberty. It is exciting to see how the actor will fair in that character which has been considered one of the reasons why fans have been looking forward to the upcoming season.
