Jennifer Garner has been a supportive wife and friend to Ben Affleck after their split. They have remained amicable after their divorce as they co-parent their three children. So, many were surprised by his recent statement about their marriage.
Jennifer Garner Heartbreak: Ben Affleck Felt Trapped In Their Marriage
Ben Affleck recently appeared on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show. During his appearance, he got candid about his relationship with Garner and he said he felt trapped in their marriage because of their kids.
"We probably would’ve ended up at each other’s throats. I probably still would’ve been drinking," Affleck said on the show. "Part of why I started drinking was because I was trapped."
He added, "I was like, 'I can’t leave because of my kids, but I'm not happy, what do I do?' And what I did was [I] drank a bottle of scotch and fell asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution."
Affleck and Garner called it quits after 10 years of marriage. Affleck also explained that most reports about their split were not true. When their separation made headlines, several outlets claimed that he had an affair with their children's then-nanny, Christine Ouzounian.
According to the Justice League star, the news about their divorce was "bulls--t." He stressed that they decided to separate because they grew apart.
"She’s somebody I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer," Affleck added.
The Justice League actor praised his ex-wife for being a "good mom." He also hopes she finds him a "good dad" to their three children — Violet, 16, Seraphina, 12, and Samuel, 9.
Ben Affleck Statement About Jennifer Garner Marriage Was 'Heartless'
Maureen Callahan of New York Post reacted to Ben Affleck's statement about his marriage and separation from Jennifer Garner. Callahan wasn't impressed and happy with what the Batman actor said in his recent interview.
According to Callahan, Garner saved her ex-husband. She also slammed Affleck's public romance with Jennifer Lopez.
The exes were engaged in early 2000 got back together in April after she called off her engagement to Alex Rodriguez. For Callahan, Affleck made the Yes Day star look like she was the runner-up and the Hustlers actress was "the one that got away."

However, she was most irked with Affleck's recent statement, saying it was worst than what Brad Pitt did to Jennifer Aniston when he paraded his affair with Angelina Jolie.
"This is the cruelest post-divorce interview since Brad Pitt blamed ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, in Parade magazine, for his deep unhappiness and subsequent affair with Angelina Jolie," Callahan wrote.
Pitt said following his divorce from Aniston, Pitt said that he wasn't "living an interesting life." He also blamed his marriage to Aniston for his unhappiness.

"I think that my marriage had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn’t," Pitt added.
"But these heartless comments might be the worst yet," Callahan said, referring to Affleck's statement.
