Jenna Ortega Filmed Wednesday Dance Scene While She Had COVID: ‘It Was Awful To Film’

There is no doubt that Netflix’ Wednesday is one of the most highly anticipated series to be released on the streaming service, especially since Tim Burton helmed the series, along with the original Wednesday Addams, Christina Ricci, set to have her own role, as well. However, the Wednesday star, Jenna Ortega, shares her terrible experience in filming the dance scene while she unknowingly had COVID.

Speaking with NME, Wednesday star Jenna Ortega shares how ‘awful’ it was to shoot while having COVID. The actress still had to shoot, without knowing she tested positive. She continues to share what her body felt like, experiencing the common symptoms. Read her full story below:

“It’s crazy. It was my first day with COVID, so it was awful to film. I felt like I’d been hit by a car and that a little goblin had been let loose in my throat and was scratching the walls of my esophagus. They were giving me medicine between takes because we were waiting on the positive result.”

When the test came back positive, Ortega had to be removed from the set to strictly follow COVID protocols. Although this led distress to the actress, feeling she could’ve done better in the scenes when she felt sick. However, it seems there was nothing she could do.

“I asked to redo it but we didn’t have time. I think I probably could have done it a bit better.”

It’s good to hear that Ortega took her time off seriously to recover from COVID. Otherwise, the filming schedule would’ve taken longer. While she feels a bit down about her performance, Christina Ricci praised her as the ‘new’ Wednesday Addams. Clearly, the young star has potential in spite of the minor setback.

I guess we’ll just have to see it for ourselves, when Wednesday releases on Netflix this coming November 23.
