Isle of the Dead Release Date, News & Update: Jeffrey Dean Morgan Teases Start of Production on Negan & Maggie Spinoff

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has posted a photo of his first script for Isle of the Dead, hinting that production will begin soon.

Isle of the Dead will follow the story of Negan (Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan), who forged a grudging truce in the final season of The Walking Dead after Negan killed Maggie's partner, Glen. The show will follow their journey to the zombie-infested shores of Manhattan.

So far, nothing is known about the additional characters who will populate this new series, except that Friday Night Lights star Gaius Charles has joined the core cast as the difficult protector Izaak.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Shares Isle of the Dead Script

Morgan shared a photo of the cover of his script for Isle of the Dead on Instagram. Despite the absence of an official episode title, the script page reveals that the episode was written by showrunner Eric Jorné and is being directed by Loren Yaconelli, who has also directed one episode of The Walking Dead this year and five episodes of the spinoff series The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

While he hasn't explicitly stated it, Morgan's statement appears to hint that production on Isle of the Dead is set to begin. He earlier stated on Instagram that he was "month and change" away from shooting the series. Given that the post where he wrote it was published on June 14, the timeframe for the start of production on Isle of the Dead appears to be spot on.

Isle of the Dead Release Date

Although Isle of the Dead is still some time away from hitting the screen, updates should be flowing thick and fast from now on. More casting announcements should be coming soon if production goes successfully, at least filling out fans' perceptions of what the primary cast will look like.

Morgan, hopefully, will continue to share behind-the-scenes glances, providing people a look at the situation of Manhattan in the Walking Dead universe.
