There have been many comparisons between HBO’s latest series The Idol and one of its successful series, Euphoria. So, is The Idol actually connected to HBO's Euphoria?

HBO’s The Idol follows the story of Jocelyn, a pop idol who has a nervous breakdown due to her mother’s death. While building back her career, she enters into a complex relationship with Tedros, a club owner who is also a cult leader.

It can be noted that The Idol contains content involving substance abuse, sex, and partying which are similar to Euphoria. This is why some have dubbed The Idol as the “next Euphoria.”

Both of these shows have the same creator: Sam Levinson. And in the series premiere of The Idol, a Euphoria star appears.

So, are The Idol and Euphoria set in the same universe? Is The Idol connected to Euphoria?

The answer is yes, The Idol is connected to Euphoria. Creator Sam Levinson revealed during the Cannes Film Festival 2023 that the two shows exist in the same universe.

The Idol and Euphoria are connected, according to creator Sam Levinson. Levinson revealed this fact during the Cannes premiere.

Notably, Euphoria star Alexa Demie appears briefly in the first episode of The Idol. There have been questions as to whether Demie appears as her Euphoria character Maddy Perez, or if she was simply a club girl or Jocelyn’s friend.

However, due to Levinson’s statement during Cannes, it is possible that it was Maddy Perez partying along with Lily-Rose Depp’s Jocelyn and Jennie Kim’s Dyanne.

In the first episode of The Idol, Jocelyn decides to go to a nightclub owned by The Weeknd’s Tedros.

In the club, Jocelyn bumps into Demie and does shots along with Dyanne. She was then dancing along with Dyanne, and the two laughed and hugged each other.

It’s hard to determine whether it was Maddy Perez in the club along with Jocelyn and Dyanne considering that Demie had no lines and only appeared briefly.

But considering that Levinson is the creator of both shows and that he revealed that The Idol and Euphoria are in the same universe, it’s likely that it was Maddy Perez who appeared in Tedros’ nightclub.

Additionally, since The Idol and Euphoria have similar themes and setups, it’s not impossible for these two shows to have a crossover.

And considering that there will still be five more episodes of The Idol, we have yet to see whether there will be more Euphoria crossovers or easter eggs.
