Haikyuu! is a volleyball-centered sports manga. It tells the story of Hinata Shoyo, an aspiring volleyball player who has been gifted with high-jumping skills despite being short in stature.

Hinata's ultimate goal is to become one of the world's top volleyball aces, much like his idol, The Little Giant.

Hinata suffers an early defeat at the hands of volleyball genius and setter Kageyama Tobio.

Hinata's only chance to play a decent game during middle school is crushed by the King of the Court. This, however, has no bearing on Hinata's objectives. He expresses his desire to compete with Kageyama and vows to defeat him one day.

In high school, Hinata unexpectedly runs into Kageyama in the volleyball gym. It turns out that they both applied to Karasuno, implying that they would play for the same team.

While they were rowdy at the start of the semester, Hinata and Kageyama worked wonders once they decided to collaborate.

Hinata and Kageyama vow to become Japan's number one someday, with the help of their other teammates.

In the face of powerful schools such as Aoba Johsai, Date Tech, and Shiratorizawa, Karasuno rises from the dumpster to demonstrate that crows can defeat anyone if they work together as a tightly-knit team.
