There is five times the trouble in the Quintessential Quintuplets with five girls, the Nakano quintuplets, Ichika, Nino, Miku, Yotsuba, and Itsuki are pushed to study and improve their poor academic performance through the employ of their private tutor Fuutaro Uesugi, an academically gifted guy in a difficult position in life offered a hefty amount to teach the quintuplets.

The Nakano family is, no question, rich, and to have five girls studying all at the same time is no easy feat. With the girls having no interest in studying at all, it becomes harder to push them to study well and get over being academically challenged. Still, the girls have different perspectives in life and would want to pursue other things, everything other than school works.

Education is no money can buy, the intellect of a person who studied and attended school is something parents would take pride in being able to send their children into a good school and see them flourish through their academics. The Nakano sisters, however, without their mother anymore, seem to have other things in mind.

The stepfather of the quintuplets, Maruo Nakano, decides to hire the son of his former classmate Isanari, Futaro, to be the private tutor of the girls, and while they got a hard time accepting him, Futaro's grit and tenacity to teach the girls succeeded slowly overtime.

Futaro keeps a photo in his student handbook of a girl he met in Kyoto when he was in the sixth grade. The girl has been his inspiration to study ever since. It was later revealed that the girl in the photo is one of the Nakano sisters and in a flashforward, Futaro ends up marrying one of them but her identity is yet to be revealed.

The Quintessential Quintuplets is based on the Japanese shōnen manga of the same name written and illustrated by Negi Haruba and published in the Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine. The manga series is also released in English under Kodansha USA.

The manga series recently concluded in February 2020 in Japan after its release of the 14th tankōbon volume. The last digital volume was released in August 2020.
