Even though Taylor-Joy has a Twitter account, she prefers using her Instagram account more. In fact, her last post on Twitter was back in November 2020. So when a tweet came out from her account today, many fans couldn't help but be excited since it seemed to be an official announcement for a sequel.

The tweet, shared on January 31st, said nothing except "The Queen's Gambit 2." After this tweet, many hopped on the bandwagon and re-tweeted the message believing it was an official announcement.

Shortly after the tweet went out, it was removed right away. So when fans started to look for more information, Taylor-Joy was forced to intervene and put out the fire.

The actress turned to her Instagram account and share a Story apologizing for the tweet. She also said that her account was hacked.

"My Twitter account has been hacked. I apologize for the inconvenience. It was not me."

The Queen's Gambit is one of Netflix's popular shows during the height of the pandemic. The show was released in 2020 and was based on a 1983 novel written by Walter Tevis.

Ever since The Queen's Gambit came out, it has been touted as a limited mini-series so a sequel is unlikely to happen. It had a total of seven episodes.

In an interview with Deadline, The Queen's Gambit's showrunner Scott Frank revealed his inhibitions for making a future season:

“I feel like we told the story we wanted to tell, and I worry – let me put it differently – I’m terrified that if we try to tell more, we would ruin what we’ve already told.”

As of this writing, there has not been any announcement confirming Netflix's plans to renew the show for a second season. The closest confirmation we got, however, was Anya Taylor-Joy's Twitter post on January 31, 2023 that turned out to be fake.

The actress has since apologized for the inconvenience and clarified that her account has been hacked.

We'll update this post once an official announcement has been made by Netflix.
