Netflix just dropped one of the biggest movies in its roster with the sequel to Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler's comedy thriller movie with Murder Mystery 2 but after all the hype, is the movie worth watching? Check out our review here!
Is Murder Mystery 2 Worth Watching?
From the movie that brought Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler back together after years of being in a movie together comes the sequel with Murder Mystery 2 and while their chemistry is undeniable, that may be the only thing saving the movie from being a complete disaster.
Murder Mystery 2 follows Audrey and Nick Spitz who entered into being full-time detectives after they successfully solved one case from years ago but as their firm falls apart, they decided to take some time off as their friend, the Maharajah, is getting married.
A lavish island owned by the Maharajah, himself, is the location and it is accessible through a helicopter ride where you'd land on a helipad on the water and it is everything lavish with every quest having their own villas full of giveaways.
Well, things went overboard when the rehearsal party started and the rest of the characters were introduced. The problem arises as the Maharajah has been kidnapped with his bodyguard dead on an elephant.
The fiasco went on as the Spitzes tried to investigate and as their involvement went deeper, the events were getting worse and worse to the point that they were the ones investigating but they ended up as the primary suspects where all of Paris is looking for them.
In the end, they found out who the culprits are in the most obvious of ways. There weren't too much thrill or action to find out who the real culprit is and considering their powerhouse of a cast, it could have been written better.

The narrative of Murder Mystery 2 is bland, something that you already quite got the hang of when watching comedy movies where they get in trouble alongside others who weren't supposed to be involved and in the end, they solve and save the day. It became typical and there's really nothing new about it.
What makes it stand out is that Murder Mystery 2 has a star-studded cast bannering the movie. Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston reprise their roles as Nick and Audrey Spitz which is, honestly, one of the main selling points of the sequel.
Sandler and Aniston have an undeniable chemistry that started from Just Go With It and from there, Murder Mystery followed. As they come back for a sequel, their chemistry on screen is one of biggest factors that saved the film.
Joining them are Mark Strong who will play a SAS mercenary Miller, Mélanie Laurent as Claudette, Jodie Turner-Smith as Countess Sekou, Enrique Arce as Francisco, Tony Goldwyn as Silverfox, Annie Mumolo, Wilmer Valderrama, and Zurin Villanueva as Imani, Kuhoo Verma as Saira.
Also in the cast of Murder Mystery 2 are Adeel Akhtar as Maharajah, and John Kani as Col. Ulenga, Dany Boon as Inspector Laurent, Carlos Ponce as the Helicopter guy, and Jillian Bell as Susan. All these cast members added to the hilarious delivery of the movie.
Another point that sold Murder Mystery 2 is the amazing set and costume design of the movie. From the island where all the guests gathered to the lovely Bollywood-themed rehearsal party to the lavish Paris setting, the set where the movie is shot is stunning.
The island is the perfect spot to start off the adventure but not all of it are real, everyone! Yes, the beach is O'ahu, Hawaii at the Kualoa Ranch and the island is real but no, there are no multiple waterfalls on the mountains and certainly not a helipad on the water.
Of course, who could not recognize the lavish Eiffel Tower in Paris, France plus the Arc de Triomphe, Les Cailloux, Palais Garnier, and the Love Lock Bridge which are some of the top spots to visit when going to the city of love.
Outside of Paris is another set where the grandiose mansion of Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte which was previously owned by Nicolas Fouquet and is presented as the mansion of Countess Sekou.
With all those stunning locations to present in the movie, it is no question that the cinematography of Murder Mystery 2 would do great because how can anyone go possibly wrong with those breathtaking locations, right?
The costume design of the movie is also over-the-top from the beach vibes at the island to the lavish Bollywood-themed wedding rehearsal to those which is apt for the city of love, Murder Mystery 2 hits all the points!
The editing of the movie also fits the bill as it seamlessly transitions from one scene to another. There were also some added effects to the movie like the waterfalls on the mountains and those in other actions scenes.
Despite the greatness of the cast, crew, locations, set and costume designs, the life and heart of the movie remains the narrative and unfortunately, it was too shallow, too bland for most of the viewers.
Still, its viewership numbers prove that other factors can bring up the views of a movie but that doesn't guarantee that people will like it. Based on the reactions of others, the movie is not even being recommended because it shows how people will consume basically anything in the name of entertainment.
Well, like it or not, Murder Mystery 2 remains one of the top movies on Netflix as of the time of writing and while those who already watched the movie may not repeat it once more, well, it already secured its purpose of having people watch it so it only means that it is successful.
That being said, Murder Mystery 2 is a fun watch, something to binge when you don't want to think of anything while watching. It is just a plain old comedy movie whose goal is to make people laugh and successfully, they are good in their goal. Thinking fans need a break, too!
