With Dragon Age Inquisition having been released over seven years ago, fans of the Bioware franchise have been reasonably worried about the release date of highly-anticipated fourth Dragon Age installment - all the more so since it's had a bit of a bumpy journey. So, is Dragon Age 4 canceled? Here are the latest updates.

Is Dragon Age 4 Cancelled?

Thankfully for fans, not only has Dragon Age 4 not been canceled, but it now has a title.

On the 2nd of June 2022, it was announced via the official Dragon Age Twitter account that the forthcoming game will be titled Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

The title, which the Dragon Age team announced using the phrase "May the Dread Wolf take you" - a popular in-universe curse - is ominous, exciting, and open to multiple interpretations.

Those who have finished playing Dragon Age: Inquisition are familiar with the dread wolf's identity, though they won't necessarily agree on whether he's a valiant anti-hero, a villain, or something in-between.

In Dragon Age: Inquisition, the Dread Wolf's background and story were teased rather than fully explored as his true identity was revealed rather late in the game.

One thing was certain; the Dread Wolf's future intended actions would have serious implications for all of Thedas, and, love him or hate him, you can't help wanting to see what the Dread Wolf will do next.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Updates and Everything You Need To Know

Over the past few years, fans of the RPG game series have been worried about the progress of Dragon Age 4. After all, EA canceled a Dragon Age work in progress back in 2017.

Additionally, many staff members left Bioware or moved on to other projects, causing fans to wonder if the project would ever go through.

The official announcement of a title, however, is a very encouraging sign. The announcement tweet was accompanied by a post published on the Bioware blog where the Dragon Age Team answered some of our most burning questions.

In this post, the team explained who the Dread Wolf is, and went on to say that "[his] namesake no doubt suggests a spectrum of endless possibilities on where things may go. But at the core of this, like every past game, is you."

This statement suggests that, once again, Dragon Age 4 will be heavily choice-based, placing the player at the center of the plot and allowing them to become the hero of the story.

While the Dragon Age Team also mentioned that we cannot expect Dragon Age: Dreadwolf to come out in 2022, they did promise that they're close than ever to the next adventure and that more updates will come later in 2022.
