If you enjoyed watching 2022’s The Batman, you will definitely want more of the latest version of the masked vigilante. So you might be wondering: Is Batman in The Penguin series?

With the release of The Batman, moviegoers saw a new big-screen version of Oswald Cobblepot, also known as Penguin. This time around, the DC Comics supervillain is played by Oscar nominee Colin Farrell.

Before Farrell’s turn, the villain was played by Danny DeVito decades earlier in 1992’s Batman Returns. With the success of The Batman, Penguin now gets to have his own series The Penguin, which hits the small screen in 2024 via Max (formerly known as HBO Max).

Obviously, the Gentleman of Crime will be front and center in his own show. But you have to wonder, which other DC Comics characters might feature in the series?

Might Batman himself make an appearance in The Penguin? Here’s what we know.

To date, no evidence exists to support the idea that Batman will be appearing in The Penguin. Well, at least none for the show’s first season.

If you check in IMDb, you will see that Robert Pattinson (who played Batman in the 2022 film) is not listed among the cast. This should make sense considering that the series will likely focus on fleshing out Penguin’s rise to power.

Still, Matt Reeves has confirmed that The Penguin will tie directly with the events of the 2022 movie.

In The Batman’s ending, the entire city is left flooded, with Oswald Cobblepot surveying the devastation while cooking up a plan to become the new king of crime in Gotham after the arrest of mob boss Carmine Falcone.

The Penguin series will potentially show us how the titular character will bring his plans to fruition. But will Batman stand in his way?

You bet Gotham’s Dark Knight will. But that story should be told in all its glory in 2025’s The Batman - Part II, the sequel to The Batman.

As for Penguin, he has a story that is worth telling in its own right. But exactly what might that story be about?

No, The Penguin series is not a prequel. Its events take place after The Batman.

Its main storyline will follow the titular character as he becomes the new crime boss in Gotham City, especially after the fall and death of mob kingpin Carmine Falcone.

Of course, nothing is ever easy in Gotham’s criminal underworld. Oswald Cobblepot’s rise to power will likely be challenged by Sofia Falcone (played by How I Met Your Mother’s Cristin Milioti, the daughter of Carmine.

The Batman producer Dylan Clark has already hinted that The Penguin’s storytelling might be influenced by the 1983 gangster classic Scarface, which starred legendary actor Al Pacino.

Like Scarface’s Tony Montana, Penguin will emerge as a criminal kingpin even as he is underestimated by everyone in the underworld.
