Indiana Jones 2 Actor Shares Hilariously Awkward Audition For Steven Spielberg

You may know Ke Huy Quan for his role in 2022’s Everything Everywhere All At Once while starring with Crazy Rich AsiansMichelle Yeoh, but did you know that one of his early films was on Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom as a rising child star? Recently, Quan recalls the time he had a hilariously awkward audition for Steven Spielberg.

Quan may have had a career gap in coming on screen, but thanks to Everything Everywhere All At Once, the actor may find himself landing back on his feet. Especially with numerous upcoming projects like Joe Russo’s The Electric State and American Born Chinese coming on Disney+. In fact, he is also set to appear in the MCU soon, as he had been cast for Loki season 2.

Speaking with The Guardian, the actor shares his experience auditioning for Spielberg’s film. Admittedly, in an attempt to not only impress the director but also come across as a sophisticated, start-out actor, Quan’s mother had advised him to wear something fancy at the mention of being invited over to perform in the Indiana Jones 2’s director’s office. Read Quan’s full story below:

“I remember doing a really bad job because my English comprehension was very minimal at that time. The next day, we got a call from Spielberg’s office. My mum thought it was a really fancy meeting and put me in this ridiculous three-piece suit. Steven noticed how uncomfortable I was. He said: ‘Ke, I would love for you to come back the next day, but wear something comfortable.’”

While it was an embarrassing experience for the actor, this encounter just served to be his starting point of his acting career. If he had not still taken the chance, who knows which movie he would’ve starred in, instead? Quan sure has the knack to be a memorable supporting character and we surely hope he continues to take more roles in the future.
