How Zack Snyder's DC Films Influenced Amazon's The Boys

The Boys has always been a series filled with violence and satire of superheroes, particularly the DC ones. Sure, there are a few subtle digs at Marvel once in a while but the comic's main villains - The Seven - are clearly inspired by DC's Justice League, from their appearance to their power-sets. It turns out that Zack Snyder's DC films will be an influence on Amazon's The Boys series but not in a positive way.

Eric Kripke, the showrunner for this adaptation, said that The Seven have their own movies in this universe, some of which will be briefly shown in the trailer. These movies are inspired by Zack Snyder's DC movies since they are, in Kripke's words, "a little pretentious" and "full of themselves." He's not wrong but a lot of DC fans won't be happy with those words.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, here's what he had to say:

"Every time they make a superhero thing, they're making a Zack Snyder movie. In the stuff that Vought makes, we were inspired more by DC than Marvel. The Marvel stuff is actually reasonably grounded, but the DC stuff tends to get a little pretentious, and we wanted the Vought superhero movies to be a little full of themselves."

Don't worry, the show will have potshots at Marvel and Disney.

"We're probably way more towards taking shots at Marvel. Marvel's real and the superheroes they have are real and they've taken over the world and that's the show."

Honestly, The Boys should be a fun watch, whether you love or hate the superhero genre. Amazon's The Boys will premiere on July 26.
