The original Star Wars trilogy establishes Obi-Wan as a beloved mentor with a huge impact on Luke's life, but the exact circumstances of their relationship prior to the first film are not much expanded upon.

Obi-Wan was present when Luke was born and after Padme, Luke's mother, died, he took Luke to Tattooine to grow up with his relatives.

Obi-Wan would then occasionally stay in Tattooine to watch over Luke and make sure he was doing alright. As such, it's likely that Luke grew up knowing about Obi-Wan's existence, rather than remembering a specific, eventful first encounter.

Of course, Luke knew little to no details about Obi-Wan's real identity and mission. To him, Obi-Wan was only known as Ben. It can be assumed that Owen wouldn't want Obi-Wan to participate in Luke's upbringing, even though he meant well and wanted to keep Luke safe.

In the first Star Wars movie, Luke seems to already know Obi-Wan, suggesting that they met at some point between the Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, when Luke was old enough to remember him.

While the exact nature of Luke and Obi-Wan's relationship before the latter officially became the former's mentor is still quite obscure, this is about to change

The trailer of the forthcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series depicts Obi-Wan expressing the intention to train young Luke Skywalker. He is, however, rebuked by Owen, who doesn't want Kenobi anywhere near Luke, being mistrustful of the Jedi arts after Anakin's turn to the dark side.

While you can only glean so much from a trailer, Obi-Wan Kenobi nevertheless seems very likely to shed light on Luke and Obi-Wan's relationship.
