House of the Dragon: Who is Mysaria?

We finally met the new characters who will appear in House of the Dragons and each one is truly intriguing in their own way. However, one character stands out despite only appearing for two seconds. So who is Mysaria and what role does she play in the Game of Thrones prequel?

Who is Mysaria?

Mysaria is also known as Lady Misery or just Misery. In the books, Mysaria starts out as a dancer from Lys who becomes Prince Daemon Targaryen's paramour. She later serves as Rhaenyra Targaryen's mistress of whispers and is responsible for giving sound advice to the Queen.

Mysaria is set to play an important role in House of the Dragon. Although she has never actually appeared in George R.R. Martin's books, she is referenced in several novels. She is known as the best master of whisperers although she was never officially given the title.

Mysaria is played by Ex Machina star Sonoya Mizuno, who is known for her scene-stealing roles. Mizuno stood out in the Alex Garland film and made heads turn as the glamourous bride in Crazy Rich Asians. As Mysaria, Mizuno is set for a truly interesting role yet again.

For now, it is unclear whether Mysaria's backstory, as hinted in the novels, will be adapted in House of the Dragon. However, we already know that masters of whisperers are not people to be taken lightly. With that in mind, there is little doubt that Mizuno's character is someone to watch out for in the series.

House of the Dragon is based on Martin's novel Fire and Blood and will take place "200 years before the fall of the Iron Throne." The series will star Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and more.

House of the Dragon Episodes 1 through 8 is currently streaming on HBO channel and HBO Max with new episodes released weekly.
