House of the Dragon Star Matt Smith Continues Praising Ncuti Gatwa Doctor Who Casting


There is little doubt that people are already excited about Ncuti Gatwa finally debuting as the Fourteenth Doctor in Doctor Who later this year. However, it looks like former Doctor Matt Smith is even more hyped up than Whovians right now. The House of the Dragon star has once again shared his thoughts on the Sex Education actor becoming the new Time Lord and Smith continues to gush about Gatwa's casting.

Matt Smith had previously spoken about Ncuti Gatwa's casting, saying that the actor is "brilliant" and that his casting was an "inspired" idea. In a new interview with Variety, the Eleventh Doctor stated yet again that he is excited about Gatwa finally getting his time as the Time Lord.

I think it's the most sensational bit of casting," Smith said. "What an actor -- he's brilliant in Sex Education. I think he's got something 'other' that that part really needs."

He continued by admitting that he is looking forward to showrunner Russell T. Davies' return.

"I think Russell has such a sense of the show as well, and I'm really, really excited to see where Doctor Who is going," Smith said.

"I love Doctor Who, it's forever in my heart," he concluded.

It's easy to understand by Matt Smith is so excited about Ncuti Gatwa playing the Time Lord this year. After all, the actor has already proven his talent and will undoubtedly become a memorable incarnation of the Doctor. With that in mind, we can't wait to see Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor regenerate later this year.

Matt Smith's next big project is the Game of Thrones spin-off show House of the Dragon which will premiere on HBO on August 21, 2022. He is also expected to return for Doctor Who's 60th anniversary but this has not yet been officially confirmed.
