The DC Extended Universe is seemingly in the midst of massive change with the newly-formed Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly determined to make some serious improvements to the divisive superhero franchise. Nothing concrete has been laid out by executive David Zaslav but fans are under the impression that all of this will eventually lead to Henry Cavill finally making his anticipated return as Superman.
You see, the general belief within the DCEU fandom is that Warner Bros. has been holding the actor back despite his desire to remain as the franchise's Man of Steel. Well, in a shocking turn of events, it turns out that Cavill is actually the one playing hard-to-get and that is according to a new report from Fandango's Erik Davis.
According to his report (via ComicBookMovie), WB has reached out to the star of The Witcher but to no avail. He said: "I've heard a story that [Warner Bros.] asked [Henry], and he doesn't want to do it, he doesn't want to come back."

It sounds absurd when you think about it but on the other hand, it's probably the reason why the studio has been forced to do a couple of faceless Superman cameos instead of just recasting the actor. It looks like the chances of us seeing Cavill return to his breakout role are getting slimmer by the day which is a true shame.
Meanwhile, Superman is expected to make a cameo appearance in Black Adam which is slated for theatrical release on October 21, 2022.
