Harry Shum Jr. finally gave an update about the much-awaited Crazy Rich Asians sequel at the 2023 Oscars for his latest appearance in the award-winning movie Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Shum knows fans have been waiting for the Crazy Rich Asians sequel following the first movie’s success in 2018. So, what does he have to say?
Harry Shum Jr. Addresses Questions About Crazy Rich Asians Sequel
On Live from E!, the 40-year-old revealed that the number one question he often asked was about the film’s sequel.
“And people are just so excited. They want it so bad," he told Laverne Cox.

"I know they're just trying to get it right,” the actor, who played the role of Charlie Wu, explained. “Because you know, when you make a sequel, sometimes, it's so sped up, and you do it so quickly, and you don't get the story right. So, they're just really trying to get it right so they can give the fans what they want."
Crazy Rich Asians Sequel Story
The Crazy Rich Asians sequel is set to follow Kevin Kwan’s second book, China Rich Girlfriend, from the trilogy novel.
In the sequel, Nick (Henry Golding) and Rachel (Constance Wu) prepare for their California wedding.

According to reports, the second film’s production has been up in the air for years. However, writer Adele Lim left the project in 2019 after an issue about salary between her and co-writer Peter Chiarelli.
But in March, Warner Bros. and Color Force announced that writer-director Amy Wang would be the sequel’s new writer instead.
Michelle Yeoh, Henry Golding Talk About Crazy Rich Asians Sequel
Michelle Yeoh earlier talked about Crazy Rich Asians' sequel while promoting Netflix’s The Witcher: Blood Origin in December 2022.
"We are still waiting on it," she told E! News. "We know there's a writer on it, so we'll see. Fingers crossed."
The Oscar’s best actress may reprise her role as Nick’s overbearing mother, Eleanor Sung Young, who wants to separate her son and Rachel.

Golding, alternatively, also told the publication that he couldn’t wait to “get back to Singapore,” the first film’s production venue, to star working on the second movie.
"I always bug [Chu] about it and he tells him the same thing every time: They're trying to figure out the writing," he stated. "I know they're working on it, but hopefully sooner than later."
