Halo TV Series Casts Its Master Chief

Showtime has found its Master Chief for the Halo TV series based on the popular X-Box game and it's the Emmy-nominated actor Pablo Schreiber (First Man, Orange is the New Black).

Showtime says that Schreiber will play "Earth's most advanced warrior in the 26th century and the only hope of salvation for a civilization pushed to the brink of destruction by the Covenant, an unstoppable alliance of alien worlds committed to the destruction of humanity."

According to Showtime, the new Halo TV series will tell "a new story but we are being incredibly respectful of the canon."

Showtime also revealed that newcomer Yerin Ha will play Quan Ah, a new character never featured in a game who's described as "a shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief at a fateful time for them both".

Showtime and 343 Industries have partnered up to produce this show, along with Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television. Production will begin this fall in Budapest, Hungary.

Otto Bathurst, who directed episodes of Black Mirror and Peaky Blinders, will helm multiple episodes of Halo's first season. Bathurst replaced Rupert Wyatt who left the production due to scheduling conflicts.
