Many may have only noticed Halle Bailey today as she plays Ariel in the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid's classic fairy tale, but she has been in the business for a long while.

The 22-year-old star isn't only an actress but also a singer and songwriter.

She's one half of the musical duo Chloe x Halle with her sister Chlöe Bailey. In fact, the pair has already received five Grammy nominations since 2018.

Acting-wise, she plays the role of Skyler Foster in the TV sitcom Grown-ish, which earned her an NAACP nomination in 2020.

Ariel is seen saving Prince Eric (Jonah Huaer-King) from a boat wreck, though she ends up being scolded by her father, King Triton (Javier Bardem).

She then seeks the help of Ursula (Melissa McCarthy) to explore the human world.

Talking about her big role, Bailey told E! News at the 2023 Kids' Choice Awards that it was like seeing herself acting like a Disney princess.

"I've seen a rough cut, and I was just sobbing the whole time," she said. "It's just very weird to watch myself. I've never seen myself that way and I just get really emotional just thinking about it."

That said, she's now ready for the film to hit the big screen.

"I am ready for everyone to finally see this film," she continued. "We have worked on it for a long time, we've been talking about it for a long time, but now we're finally going to see it, and I'm just grateful."
