Guillermo del Toro Denies Being Tapped to Direct Live-Action Atlantis for Disney

Disney has been slowly going through their roster of classic films and turning them into live-action. One film that's been heavily requested by the fans is a remake of Atlantis: The Lost Empire and a rumor has come out that Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water) is being tapped to direct; too bad though, because none of that is true.

Del Toro himself posted it on Twitter:

I do have to say though, del Toro would actually be a good choice for the film. Just in case you didn't know, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola was also production designer for Atlantis; so it's no wonder a lot of people think it's a good idea if del Toro would be helming an Atlantis movie.

For now, we have no idea if Disney is ever planning to do an Atlantis remake. If anything, that's the film they should be focusing on rather than movies like The Little Mermaid. I mean, I'd be a lot more hyped if they told me we were getting a Treasure Planet movie rather than Aladdin or The Lion King. I guess Disney will have to revisit it when they run out of 90s classics to remake.

As for del Toro, he's producing this horror movie called Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and it's chock full of his signature creatures and monsters.

Here's the synopsis:

It's 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind...but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities in the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah's terrifying home.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is set to come out Aug. 9.
