Grey's Anatomy recently bid goodbye to Jesse Williams' character, Jackson Avery, but it seems this is not the last time fans will see him on the show.

Prior to the premiere of Grey's Anatomy Season 18, Williams surprised the fandom when he said that he's open to reprising his character.

Will Jesse Williams return to Grey's Anatomy Season 18?

While there is still no confirmation about the actor's possible return, it would be exciting to see Jackson once again in the upcoming seasons.

After all, the last time that Jackson was featured in Grey's Anatomy, he told his fellow doctors that he would be running the Jackson Avery Foundation to provide more opportunities for minority groups.

Jackson also reunited with his ex-wife, April Kepner (Sarah Drew) in Grey's Anatomy Season 17. April and their daughter Harriet went to Boston with Jackson.

While speaking with Hollywood Life, Williams expressed his love for his co-stars. He said that this is why he's open to the idea of returning to Grey's Anatomy.

"I love my people there, my character, and it could be really cool to have a check-in and see what he and April are up to. I'd be interested in that for sure," he said.

Why did Jesse Williams quit Grey's Anatomy?

Earlier this year, Williams explained to TV Line why he was written off the show.

"It was really a collective [thing]. It didn't start with the decision, it ended with what makes sense for the character's journey. We were figuring out where this guy is going, and something kept saying that he can't stay here. He's been on these walkabouts and a personal journey, and he hasn't really been able to maintain a personal relationship since April," he said.

Will there be a Jackson-April spinoff?

When asked if there's a possibility for a Jackson-April spinoff, Williams said that he would be excited to take part in such a project. However, a part of him also wants to explore other things.

And if a spinoff were to feature Jackson and April's new life in Boston, it would most likely include Thomas Koracick (Greg Germann) because he also moved to Boston to work for Jackson.

When will Grey's Anatomy Season 18 premiere?

Even though Williams won't be a part of Grey's Anatomy Season 18, there's still plenty of storylines and guest appearances to watch out for.

The new season of Grey's Anatomy will have a crossover special alongside Station 19 on Sept. 30. The latter will air at 8 p.m., while Grey's Anatomy Season 18 will premiere at 9 p.m.
