There is little doubt that people were pleasantly surprised when it was announced that God of War is getting a series adaptation on Amazon Prime. However, one person wasn't even fazed. Showrunner Rafe Judkins confirmed that he had been developing the show based on the Santa Monica Studio video game, and he had been at it for a while now. In fact, Judkins was working on God of War at the same time as The Wheel of Time.
Late last week, it was confirmed that the God of War live-action series adaptation got the green light at Amazon Prime. It was great news for fans who have been waiting for the project and it looks like the show has been in development for some time now. According to Rafe Judkins, the showrunner had been working on the series with writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who will also serve as executive producers.
"This is something I've been working on for a long time with [Fergus and Ostby]. So, the announcement just came out but it's something we've known about and been involved with for a while," Judkins said during an interview with Dragonmount. "So, you know, it's really exciting. I love the games, I love working with those two guys, they're great, really smart, love The Expanse. I'm sure many others are fans as well. Iron Man, also a good film. Don't know if you've seen it."
Amazingly, Judkins juggled God of War with The Wheel of Time.
"I've always worked on other stuff while I'm working on Wheel so it'll never affect my commitment to Wheel, obviously," he explained. "But, it's something that I'm really happy to be working on because I really love it. And it's also really different than Wheel in a lot of ways so it's a good balance to be between the two."
It's great to know that Judkins managed to find time to work on both projects.
The God of War series has not yet been given an official release date. The Wheel of Time Season 2 is expected to air on Amazon Prime next year.
