Girls Trip 2 Is Finally Happening; Plot, Other Major Details Revealed

Tiffany Haddish, Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, and Jada Pinkett Smith will be back in Girls Trip 2. The girls will have an international adventure this time as they make their way to Ghana.

It has been almost six years since fans last saw the original movie, Girls Trip, featuring a group of friends that met in New Orleans for a trip to Essence Music Festival. After their wild nights out, they will again be seen in Girls Trip 2.

Girls Trip 2 Coming is Now Confirmed

Writer, director, and producer Tracy Oliver, who co-wrote the film, revealed at the Sundance Film Festival that she had a “definitive” movie update.

She then confirmed to Variety Studio, presented by Audible, that the sequel is “officially happening.” “I can say that,” she stressed.

Will Packer, the original film’s producer, also confirmed during his appearance on Good Morning America that a sequel would be in the works.

"I think that the time is actually right, and this is something that I will tell you and break right now at GMA: the Girls Trip 2 sequel, we are underway,” he told Michael Strahan.

Alternatively, director Malcolm D. Lee said in 2018 that he would love to do Girls Trip 2.

Girls Trip 2 Plot

Meanwhile, Oliver added that the original movie’s all-star cast would be back for the sequel and later hinted at the Girls Trip 2 plot.

"No one else knows this, Will Packer might kill me, but we're looking to set it in Ghana,” Oliver teased.

This time, fans are about to see the vibrant and sunny setting in the country. At the same time, she confirmed that the four women would be attending Afrochella Festival, the famous music and cultural event, in Ghana.

Other Girls Trip 2 Preparations

Though the sequel movie’s plot is already planned, Oliver added that there was no definitive timeline yet.

She’s only in the process of writing its script. But as a preparation, the movie’s stars will attend this year’s Afrochella Festival to familiarize themselves with the event and the country’s capital, Accra.
