The G.I. Joe movie franchise has been dormant since 2013, but Hasbro is looking to go for the prequel/reboot route with the spinoff Snake Eyes. The film has already found their lead in the form of Henry Golding, and news has it that another classic Joe character is going to make a return.

According to HN Entertainment, the film is currently casting for the role of the Baroness, Cobra Commander's lieutenant and intelligence officer for Cobra. No details have been revealed about the role yet, but hopefully, we get a backstory more interesting than what we got in Rise of the Cobra.

Originally, the part was played by Sienna Miller, and her Baroness was the brainwashed fiancé of Duke (Channing Tatum). Hopefully, this new version of the character gives the Baroness more agency. She is one of the best-known femme fatales in pop-culture, and I kind of hated the idea that she was just some lost girl being manipulated by her brother a.k.a. Cobra Commander. I would be satisfied with a fully capable character who works for Cobra because she really believes in it.

For now, we don't really have an idea of where Snake Eyes is going to go, but we do know it will feature the origin of the Joe's infamous silent ninja. I don't really know how Baroness could fit in the story this time around, but I'm almost sure that it will feature Snake Eyes' rival (and Cobra's ninja mascot) Storm Shadow.

Catch Snake Eyes when it hits theaters Oct. 16, 2020.
