Gamescom Will Continue (For Now) Despite Threat of Coronavirus

With E3 2020 getting canceled, many assumed that every other gaming convention would follow suit but that doesn't appear to be the case. Gamescom, which has become an alternative event to announce your games in, even surpassing E3 to some, will not be canceling their show. This is pretty surprising since hysteria for the Coronavirus is pretty high but let's just hope that they do what's best for everyone.

On their official Twitter account, Gamescom stated that they are currently not affected by the recent ban from the city of Cologne since their event is still in August. As they state below, only events in March and April have to close or get canceled so Gamescom 2020 could still happen. Obviously, they're going to wait and see if this Coronavirus gets any worse but that doesn't seem to be the case right now.

Many gaming companies are opting to find other ways to showcase their games, whether it be through an online event or some other form of an announcement that will generate hype. As of this writing, nothing big has been announced yet, though a number of reports are claiming that new Batman and Harry Potter games were set to be announced in E3 before the big cancelation.

It seems like we're all living in interesting times and we can only hope that things get better by August when Gamescom 2020 is expected to open. Share your thoughts, maybe even some prayers, if you want everything to get better.
