Furious Cinema Owner Destroys Mulan Promo Standee in Protest of Disney's Announcement

There is little doubt that fans are somehow relieved that they will finally get to see Mulan when it becomes available on Disney+ this September. However, not everyone is happy about Disney's decision to skip the movie's theatrical release. A cinema owner in France protested the announcement by destroying one of the film's promo standees.

The video was shared on Twitter and it features a man furiously taking a bat to the Mulan standee in the cinema. You can watch the video below.

So who is this man and why is he so furious about the announcement? According to Deadline, he is Gerard Lemoine of the independent theater Cinepal in Palaiseau, a suburb south of Paris. When asked why he decided to destroy the standee, Lemoine admitted that he had been hoping Mulan would help boost their re-opening efforts.

"It's really a huge effort to stay open right now for most of us, but we were assuming there would be some ambitious movie releases in the coming weeks," Lemoine said. "By losing Mulan, we lost the possibility of offering our audiences a long-awaited film that would have helped us after these past hard weeks. It is also a bad message to send to the public [who had been expecting a theatrical release]."

For now, Lemoine hopes that Christopher Nolan's Tenet will be the one movie that will help him and fellow cinema owners recover once they reopen after the COVID-19 pandemic. However, if the film skips theaters as well, we wouldn't be surprised if Lemoine decides to take his rage out on the poster that was also shown in the video.

Mulan will be available for $29.99 on Disney+ starting September 3.
