Former Marvel Studios Executive is Rebooting The Green Hornet

With superheroes becoming more mainstream than ever, it's actually kind of sad how the pulpy heroes of the past have been a distant memory in recent years. It seems like former Marvel Studios executive Michael Helfant wants to change that as his studio, Amasia Pictures will be rebooting The Green Hornet. This classic comic book character is pretty beloved by fans so it was a shame that his recent live-action film with Seth Rogen was not good.

Plans for this Green Hornet reboot were revealed by Variety and Helfant, who gleefully shared his fandom for the classic comic book character. What might shock fans is how Helfant tried making the movie with Marvel Studios, making it the first time the studio has tried adapting a movie based on a completely different comic book character.

Helfant feels that Green Hornet is one of the few self-contained superhero franchises left and expressed admiration for the original show that made Bruce Lee a star when he played as Kato. Here's what Helfant had to say about bringing this franchise back to the big screen:

"This is one of the only stand-alone classic superhero franchises. We're a bunch of fan geeks at Amasia and are thrilled about creating something fresh and truly worthy of this legacy property. A new world that is relevant and thrilling, while respecting and honoring the original vision of creator George W. Trendle."

Only time will tell if Helfant's words ring true but there's nowhere to go but up for this series. After all, no one liked the Seth Rogen Green Hornet movie so we can only hope that this one manages to do better while also feeling fresh. Considering how he doesn't have any powers, this could revitalize the pulpy superhero movie.

No release date for this Green Hornet reboot has been revealed.
