First Look at Pixar's Soul Starring Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey

After Toy Story 4, Pixar is said to be focusing on the release of more original films moving forward. We already have Onward coming next year, but now we have a first look at another upcoming movie, Soul.

Here's a still from Entertainment Weekly:

The movie is directed by Pete Docter and is said to focus on Joe (Jamie Foxx), a musician who accidentally dies after getting his dream job. His soul then ends up at You Seminar, a metaphysical place where souls are given personalities before they get sent off to human bodies. Joe is joined by 22 (Tina Fey) as they attempt to return his soul to Earth which involves "a journey through cosmic realms."

It pretty much sounds like a mix of Inside Out and Coco, in a sense that a musician explores the afterlife, but the movie goes on to explain how the afterlife "works."

The movie is also said to tackle the obsession of artists, and co-director Kemp Powers also had this to say about the film, "For anyone who has a profession in the creative arts, it's an almost religious obsessiveness you have to have success and a career in the arts. At any point, no matter how happy you are doing what you do, it feels like that obsessiveness is detrimental to the rest of your life."

Soul sounds interesting, and I'm on board for anything kid-friendly that makes me emotional. With Docter's reputation, I'm sure Pixar has another hit on their hands.

Catch Soul when it comes out in theaters on June 19, 2020.
