Square Enix hasn't revealed anything about Final Fantasy 16 since it was first announced in September 2020, where it was revealed that the roleplaying game will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Some details about the game's lore and characters have been revealed in images and a four-minute trailer.

Unfortunately, Square Enix still hasn't announced an official release date for Final Fantasy 16, but an insider recently shared an update that suggests that the RPG is going to be delayed, despite previous rumors claiming that the game will be released in 2022.

That industry insider is a Bloomberg reporter, Jason Schreier, who recently said that he's not getting his hopes up that the highly-anticipated game will be released this year. Schreier went on to say that "the thing to consider about Final Fantasy is that it's being run by the same people who run Final Fantasy 16, which took priority last year and was delayed multiple times."

Final Fantasy 16

"Final Fantasy XVI brings players into a world where Eikons are powerful and deadly creatures that reside within Dominants-a single man or woman who is blessed with the ability to call upon their dreaded power," reads the official description of Final Fantasy 16. "The story follows Clive Rosfield, a young man dedicated to mastering the blade, who is dubbed the First Shield of Rosaria and tasked to guard his younger brother Joshua-the Dominant of the Phoenix. Unexpected events set Clive on a dark and dangerous road to revenge."

It's unclear how much of Schreier said is based on inside information or speculation. However, since Square Enix hasn't recently shared anything concrete about the game, it's safe to say that it won't be released by the mid of 2022.
