The Controversial Final Fantasy XIII is Now 10 Years Old

Final Fantasy XIII will go down in history as one of the most controversial installments of this long-running franchise and the fact that it spawned two more installments will continue to be a baffling fact we'll all have to live with. That being said, the game does have its fair share of fans and is considered a solid enough title once you go through all of the baggage early on.

Well, despite its controversial legacy, Square Enix is celebrating the fact that Final Fantasy XIII is now 10 years old. It would have been funny to see the publisher celebrate the game being 13 years old but there's always a chance of that happening three years from now. No one would be dumb enough to miss something like that, especially since it would make quite the headline.

It's good to see Square Enix celebrate this title, even if it is pretty controversial. This shows that the company was serious about making it back then and have no regrets regarding its legacy. While most people are willing to accept the first game for its gorgeous graphics and interesting gameplay, the sequels have a much more mixed response.

Gameplay-wise, Final Fantasy XIII-2 actually fixed a number of issues and gave fans a fairly fun RPG, albeit one with a dumb ending. The third game, Lightning Returns, ticked off fans with its odd Majora's Mask-style time limit and lackluster gameplay. Even hardcore Lightning fans hate Lightning Returns.

Final Fantasy XIII is now available on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.
