Another Super Bowl has come and gone, and whether you were pulling for a big victory from the Patriots or the Eagles, we all came out as winners thanks to the incredible teasers, TV spots, and trailers that aired during the commercial breaks. Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac & the Notorious B.I.G.
Premiering February 27 on USA Network, Season 1 of this anthology-drama series will focus on the murders of hip-hop legends Tupac Shakur and Christopher Wallace, aka the Notorious B.I.G. The Super Bowl TV spot is short and to the point, and at this point, it’s unknown whether or not another season focusing on different real-world subjects will be ordered. The series stars Wavvy Jonez, Marcc Rose, Josh Duhamel, Dominic L. Santana, Michael Harney, and Jamie McShane.
Castle Rock
Based on the short stories of Stephen King, in conjunction with executive producer J.J. Abrams, Castle Rock is an original suspense/thriller that explores the themes and worlds uniting the entire King canon, while brushing up against some of his most iconic and beloved stories. Starring André Holland, Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgård, Melanie Lynskey, and Scott Glenn, the Castle Rock series premieres this summer.
A Quiet Place
Directed by John Krasinski and starring him and Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place is a supernatural thriller about a family living in utter silence for fear of an unknown threat that follows and attacks at any sound. Judging by the TV spot, they’ll likely have their work cut out for them. The film hits theaters April 6.
Skyscraper
Biggest star in the world Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stars in Skyscraper as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Sawyer, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in China, he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. Now on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name, and somehow rescue his family from inside the building. You can catch the movie in theaters July 13.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan
John Krasinski stars as CIA analyst Jack Ryan, who stumbles upon a suspicious series of bank transfers that pull him from the safety of his desk job and catapult him into a deadly game of cat and mouse throughout Europe and the Middle East, with a rising terrorist figurehead preparing for a massive attack against the U.S. and her allies. The series is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 31.
The Cloverfield Paradox
In an unprecedented move, not only did we learn that the third chapter of the Cloverfield franchise, The Cloverfield Paradox, would be coming to Netflix instead of theaters but we also learned it was dropping RIGHT AFTER the Super Bowl. The film follows a group of scientists orbiting a planet on the brink of war as they test a device to solve an energy crisis. However, the crew ends up face-to-face with a dark alternate reality, instead. The film stars Daniel Brühl, Elizabeth Debicki, Aksel Hennie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O'Dowd, John Ortiz, David Oyelowo, and Zhang Ziyi, and you can watch it on Netflix now.
Red Sparrow
Coming to theaters March 2, Red Sparrow is a spy thriller based on the novel of the same name, and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker, Joely Richardson, and Jeremy Irons. The film follows a ballerina named Dominika Egorova, who’s recruited to a Russian intelligence service where she’s forced to use her body as a weapon. However, when she targets a CIA agent, the mission threatens to unravel the security of both nations.
Westworld
On April 22, Westworld returns to HBO for its second season, with Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, and James Marsden all reprising their roles from Season 1. After the hosts rebelled, it will be interesting to see what’s in store for the patrons of the Wild West theme park.
Mission: Impossible - Fallout
Mission: Impossible – Fallout will see Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames), as well as some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan), come together in a race against time after a mission goes awry. Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the film’s ensemble cast, and you can catch it in theaters July 27.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will return for the sequel to 2015’s dinosaur blockbuster, as they mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from Isla Nublar when its dormant volcano suddenly awakens. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom roars into theaters June 22.
Avengers: Infinity War
Hitting theaters May 4, Avengers: Infinity War is arguably the most ambitious superhero movie of all time. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will need to band together in order to defeat the Mad Titan Thanos, but the war will likely leave some casualties along the way. The movie stars pretty much everyone who’s ever been in an MCU film, so we won’t bother listing them all.
Solo: A Star Wars Story
In preparation for the full-length trailer, a teaser for Solo: A Star Wars Story dropped during the big game, giving fans their first look the latest Star Wars anthology film. Arriving in theaters May 25, the movie will explore the early days of everyone’s favorite scoundrel, with characters both old and new joining him on his journey across the underworld of the Star Wars universe.
