Ellen DeGeneres and Anne Heche’s whirlwind romance was short-lived, but there’s no discounting the fact that they both left a mark on each other. However, the late actress had nothing but wonderful things to say about the Ellen Show shot. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about Portia de Rossi’s wife.
Ellen DeGeneres Accused Anne Heche Of Using Her To Further Her Career
After their three-year relationship ended in 2000, Ellen DeGeneres broke her silence about her split from Heche. At the time, the comedian accused her ex-girlfriend of using her. DeGeneres also claimed that her mom figured out that Heche had an agenda even before she realized that this was really the case.
“I thought Anne loved me with all her heart, but now I know the truth. Anne never truly loved me. I see now that I was being used. I guess she wasn’t gay. I am unsure now as to what her real motives were. I was naïve. I envisioned a beautiful future. We bought two homes together and that indicates commitment — at least on my part. I thought we were going to be together forever. My feelings were sincere. Obviously, there was some sort of agenda that I knew nothing about. My mom figured this out before I did,” DeGeneres said (via Radar Online).

Ellen DeGeneres Claimed Anne Heche Enjoyed The Publicity They Got As A Same-Sex Couple In Hollywood
DeGeneres also claimed that during her relationship with Heche, she was the quieter and more passive one. Heche, on the other hand, enjoyed the attention and publicity that she got from dating the funny woman.
“We were world famous. We were trailblazers. For a while, it was fun. I was being hailed as a role model for all gay women. We were the trendy Hollywood lesbian couple! She liked that. But I soon felt a bit uncomfortable with the attention. I was worried that we couldn't live up to everyone's expectations and obviously, we didn't. This was the biggest heartbreak of my life,” DeGeneres said.
But despite DeGeneres’ negative feelings about Heche years ago, the comedian still sent the late actress’s family her well-wishes after the latter was taken off life support last Friday.
Anne Heche Dealt With Money Problems, Had Debts Prior To Her Demise
According to reports, Heche was dealing with some money problems months before she passed away. On March 3, 2021, she was reportedly sued by Citibank after Heche failed to pay them the money that she loaned.
Prior to her death, Heche was reportedly able to pay the bank around $25,000, but she still owed Citibank over $36,000.
As of writing, it’s unclear what will happen to the late actress’s debts.
