Ellen DeGeneres has been in the industry for decades, but she’s gearing for major changes in her career, especially with the upcoming cancelation of her talk show, The Ellen Show. Last month, it was also announced that DeGeneres’ game show, Game of Games, will no longer be renewed for a fifth season by NBC.
Ellen DeGeneres Wants To Stay Relevant In Hollywood
National Enquirer, in its Feb. 21 issue, claimed that the network’s decision not to renew Game of Games has caused Ellen DeGeneres distress. And the funny woman couldn’t allegedly help but think that her entire career is over.
“Ellen wanted this game show to go on for another 20 years. She was open about building it up as the next Jeopardy! – exploring syndicated versions and versions for other countries. Having it pulled away from her is a huge kick in the teeth and a cold reminder the days of Ellen commanding hours and hours of TV programming time each week appear to be coming to an end – and rather abruptly,” an unnamed source claimed.
The unnamed source added that DeGeneres is worried about not staying relevant following the cancelation of her two shows.
“The extra sting of Game of Games ending is that this was going to be Ellen’s life raft after her talk show, a way to stay relevant and in front of audiences and fellow celebrities. But there’s no getting around it’s also been hurt by Ellen’s falling star. Everything she touches doesn’t turn to gold anymore, and her 2020 scandal lost her fans,” the unnamed source said.
Ellen DeGeneres Could Start A New Show After Game of Games Cancelation
According to the source, DeGeneres might consider starting another game show or talk show. But she would need time and money to make such a huge investment. Even then, there’s no guarantee that her new projects will be a big hit especially after the scandal that she was involved in two years ago.
But if there’s one upside to everything that’s been happening to DeGeneres’ career, it’s that she will be able to spend more time with her wife, Portia de Rossi.
“Ellen is very lucky to have Portia because there’s a lot of people in the business speculating that her days at the top of Hollywood are over. It’s looking more and more like she’s going to fade very quickly from view once her show leaves the air this spring,” the source said.
Ellen DeGeneres Talks About Her Scandal, Ellen Show Ending
Game of Games Season 4 last aired on May 2021. Fans were waiting for the game show’s renewal but only found out last month that the program will no longer return to NBC.
Ellen Show, on the other hand, will air its 19th and final season until this spring. After which, it’s unclear what DeGeneres would be up to.
Last year, de Rossi’s wife opened up about the bullying and mean girl scandal that she was involved in when she appeared in Today.
“I really didn't understand it; I still don't understand it. It was too orchestrated; it was too coordinated. People get picked on but for four months straight for me, and then for me to read in the press about a toxic work environment when all I've ever heard from every guest that comes on the show is what a happy atmosphere this is, and what a happy place it is,” DeGeneres said.

DeGeneres also explained at the time that she didn’t leave Ellen Show because of the scandal. After all, if this was her goal then she would’ve not come back for Season 19 altogether.
“If that was why I was quitting, I would've not come back this year. I really did think about not coming back because it was devastating,” she said.
During her interview with The Hollywood Reporter last year, DeGeneres said that she decided to end her talk show after realizing that she’s no longer having as much fun as she used to have.
