Avid followers of Ellen DeGeneres were shocked after learning that she would end her syndicated daytime program in 2022. The wife of Portia de Rossi announced the departure of the show after 19 seasons.

In a four-minute monologue, Ellen DeGeneres stated:

“Two years ago, I signed a deal for three more years and I always knew in my heart that Season 19 would be my last. Nineteen is a great number. First of all, the 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. This may be controversial, but I believe women should be allowed to vote. I said it," DeGeneres said in the clip, mixing serious thoughts with the meandering beats and strategic pauses that are signature of her comedic style. "Also, on the periodic table, 19 is the atomic number for potassium."

Ellen DeGeneres also explained her decision to end the popular talk show, which premiered in 2003, saying:

“The truth is, I always trust my instincts. My instinct told me it’s time. As a comedian, I’ve always understood the importance of…timing. In all seriousness, I truly have felt like next season was the right time to end this amazing chapter."

Prior to her explanation, many linked Ellen DeGeneres’ departure to the backlash over reports of a toxic environment. Former and present employees previously claimed that they faced racisms, fear and intimidation while working with the talk show host.

An unnamed ex-employee even told BuzzFeed News:

“That ‘be kind’ bullshit only happens when the cameras are on. It’s all for show. I know they give money to people and help them out, but it’s for show.”

An unidentified insider also told Star Magazine, on its upcoming Jan. 10, 2022 issue, that:

“Ellen’s in a precarious spot. She still has plenty of powerful friends, but Hollywood is a fickle place.”

Is Johnny Depp’s Career Over?

Aside from Ellen DeGeneres, Johnny Depp also dominated the headlines sometime in 2021 amid his domestic abuse scandal. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor lost his libel case against the British tabloid The Sun in November.

The 58-year-old star filed a lawsuit against the publication after it labeled him a “wife beater” in a detailed article about his 15-month marriage to Amber Heard. The Aquaman actress, who filed for divorce in 2016, said in court:

“[I] was afraid he was going to kill [me]. The physical abuse included punching, slapping, kicking, headbutting and choking me, as well as throwing me into things, pulling me by my hair, and shoving me or pushing me to the ground.”

Johnny Depp countered Amber Heard’s accusations and claimed that his ex-wife left human feces in their Los Angeles penthouse bed and threw a vodka bottle at him, which wound up severing his fingertip to the bone.

Amid his tumultuous court battle with Amber Heard, Johnny Depp has also forfeited his role in Warner Bros. and J.K. Rowling’s Fantastic Beasts film series. Luckily, he was able to keep hold of his $5 million deal with Christian Dior’s men’s fragrance called Sauvage.

Will Cancel Culture End Chrissy Teigen’s Road To Stardom?

Chrissy Teigen, aside from Ellen DeGeneres and Johnny Depp, was also involved in a scandal last year. The wife of John Legend previously admitted that she had been a troll on Twitter and apologized for the pain and hurt she caused to a number of netizens caught in her past social media crosshairs.

The 36-year-old American model wrote in her post:

“I’ve apologized publicly to one person, but there are others — and more than just a few — who I need to say I’m sorry to. I’m in the process of privately reaching out to the people I insulted. ... There is simply no excuse for my past horrible tweets. My targets didn’t deserve them. No one does.”

The apology of Chrissy Teigen came after model Courtney Stodden’s interview with The Daily Beast. The television personality recounted how Chrissy had sent her nasty tweets and messages during their teenage years.

Courtney Stodden told The Daily Beast:

"She wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take 'a dirt nap' but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself. Things like, 'I can’t wait for you to die.”

An unidentified informant told Star Magazine of Chrissy Teigen:

“At this point, she doesn’t post a thing on social media without her team’s approval. She’s trying to dig herself out of the D-list, but no one seems too eager to forgive and forget.”

Ellen DeGeneres, Johnny Depp, and Chrissy Teigen, who are yet to comment on the statements of Star Magazine’s sources, are just some of the popular personalities who were victimized by cancel culture. They might have done something wrong in the past but their mistakes do not define who they are.
