Elijah Wood Hopes Lord of the Rings Reboot Is Not Just For Money Grabs

We might be dawning on a new era of Television. With remakes and reboots flying ‘round and about, the Lord of the Rings is no exception.

As it so happens, new Lord of the Rings movies have been in talks at Warner Bros., and while The Rings of Power have gained success on their end, original franchise star Elijah Wood is hopeful that the new batch is not just for ‘money grabs.’

“I’m fascinated and I’m excited. I hope it’s good,” Wood said while speaking with GQ Magazine, “I’m surprised — I don’t know why I’m surprised because, of course there would be more movies.”

The Frodo actor added, “Obviously, at the core of that, is a desire to make a lot of money. It’s not that a bunch of executives are like, ‘Let’s make really awesome art.’”

“And again, not begrudging anybody because, of course, it is commerce.” The actor continued, “But great art can come from commerce. So those two things are not mutually exclusive.”

Although Wood did stress that Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy “didn’t come out of that place”, which pertains to milking the franchise for money.

“It came out of a passion for these books and wanting to see them realized,” Wood said, “And I hope that that is ultimately what will drive everything forward with whatever these subsequent movies are.”

Warner Bros. previously confirmed that the new Lord of the Rings movies will be having ‘multiple’ films based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s books. While details are still being kept under wraps, a faithful adaptation could be falling into place.

Lord of the Rings fans would be more than pleased to know that Wood remains honest when it comes to making films work, even in today’s times.

Wood might be right on the money with this one (no pun intended), since WB has also signed on a ten-year deal with Max to reboot the entire Harry Potter books for seven seasons.

Meanwhile, you can still stream The Lord of the Rings trilogy on HBO Max.
