Ushio Kofune is Summer Time Rendering's main female protagonist. She is a blonde young girl who has been Shinpei's childhood friend for a long time. After Shinpei's parents died in a boat accident, she and her younger sister, Mio, took Shinpei into their home.

While Mio has tanned skin and black hair, Ushio has fair skin and blonde hair like her father, Alan Kofune. Ushio has been adored by the people of the island since she was a child.

While their father works in the kitchen, Ushio and Mio frequently hang out in their family diner. The islanders accommodate Ushio and Mio to the point where the sisters consider them extended family.

Ushio is a free-spirited young lady. Her personality is outgoing and cheerful, which attracts the villagers' hospitality. Ushio, according to Shinpei, is a brave and kind girl who deserves more than the world has to offer.

The latter, between Mio and Ushio, is closer to Shinpei. She is so close to him that she gradually develops romantic feelings for him.

During the island's festival, Ushio confesses to Shinpei that she has always liked him, unaware that her sister has the same feelings for Shinpei.

Ushio Kofune died at the start of Summer Time Rendering.

Shinpei learned that Ushio had drowned while attempting to save Shiori Kobayakawa. As a result, Shinpei returned to Hitogashima Island.

He had seen Ushio in his dreams prior to his arrival. Ushio appears to warn Shinpei about the situation on the island. She also instructed Shinpei to protect Mio and discover the truth behind her untimely death.

During Ushio's funeral, Shinpei's close friend Sou Hishigata informs him that Ushio did not drown. Strangled marks on Ushio's neck indicate that she was strangled to death by an unknown assailant.

This is reminiscent of the death of Hizuru Minakata's brother, Ryuunosuke Nagumo. Everyone believes that a wild animal attack was the cause of his death.

Hizuru, on the other hand, witnessed everything, which resulted in her having a dual personality and harboring a grudge against the Shadows.

In Summer Time Rendering, Ushio actually died. However, because the events of the manga have been reset due to the efforts of Shinpei and Ushio, her death has been reversed, making her alive by the end.

Ushio became a Shadow unlike any other after dying in the early events of Summer Time Rendering. While some Shadows are hostile to humans, Ushio's Shadow is very similar to the real Ushio, including her behavior and personality.

Shinpei finds it difficult to accept Ushio's existence as an outcome of this. Even though he wants to believe Ushio is different, he can't help but keep a knife hidden behind his back in case Ushio's shadow turns against him.
