Catherine Tate returns to reprise her role as Donna Noble in the three-episode 60th-anniversary special of Doctor Who. And as many wonder what her future in the show will be, showrunner Russell T. Davies hints it will not be good.

Tate and David Tennant will reunite as the Doctor and his companion in Doctor Who's 60th anniversary. So, what adventure awaits these two?

Donna Noble's Future in Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary?

Instagram user bbcdoctorwho detailed Donna's journey through the TARDIS from her first appearance in 2006 to her last episode in 2010.

She was first seen in the Christmas episode, The Runaway Bride, while her last appearance was in The End of Time Part Two.

"Donna Noble's TARDIS adventures took her all over time and space - what does the future hold?" the caption read.

Davies left an ambiguous comment on the post, making Donna's fans slightly worried.

Fans' Wish for Donna in Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary

Per Screen Rant, Donna's fate in her last appearance on the show was deemed one of the "most heartbreaking departures" of any character in the series' history.

She was burdened with a Time Lord's mind in a human body due to her two-way biological meta crisis in the fourth season finale, and it quickly became "unsustainable."

Hence, the Doctor needed to wipe off her memory of the TARDIS, him, and everyone she encountered during her adventure in the time machine.

As Donna has already endured enough during her time as the Doctor's companion in the fourth season, fans believe she deserves to have a happy ending this time.

Though she had a proper send-off and a winning lottery ticket, she still couldn't remember anything about her time in the TARDIS.

David Tennant, Catherine Tate Reunite in Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary

After being the Tenth Doctor, Tennant returns to regenerate into the 14th Doctor in Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary.

Tate would join her as Donna.

Though her memory of the TARDIS remains erased, Davies has found a way to make her join the Doctor, Vulture noted.
