Doctor Strange 2 Writer Explains [SPOILERS] Arrival in Mid-Credits Scene

There is little doubt that mid-credits and post-credits scenes have been a Marvel Cinematic Universe tradition for more than a decade now and it's no different in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Interestingly, the film decided to introduce a new character into the MCU, and although it was brief, it was certainly worth it. But why wait this long to bring in this character? Writer Michael Waldron offered an interesting explanation of why they finally brought the hero into the MCU. WARNING! DOCTOR STRANGE 2 SPOILERS AHEAD!

In Doctor Strange 2, the mid-credits scene showed Stephen Strange being approached by a mysterious sorceress who tells him his actions have caused some major trouble. He then follows her into the Dark Dimension.

That sorceress happens to be Clea and she is played by Charlize Theron. Clea is actually Doctor Strange's wife in the comics and fans have been waiting for her arrival in the MCU.

So why did Doctor Strange 2 finally decide to bring Clea into the MCU? Michael Waldron explained in the Hero Nation podcast that they have wanted to introduce the character for a long time now.

"We always knew we wanted to introduce Clea, who in the comics is you could say the great love of Doctor Strange, but really in a lot of ways is his formidable equal as a sorcerer herself," Waldron said. He went on to point out why the character had to be brought into the MCU.

"Her backstory is fascinating. She's the niece of Dormammu, the giant floating head from the first movie. And so, they have a lot of great adventures in the comics, and we knew we wanted to introduce her, but it felt like we had to close the book to some extent on his love story with Christine Palmer, Rachel McAdams' character," Waldron stated.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now screening in theaters worldwide.
