While Charlotte and George were busy dealing with their complicated romance, the royal footmen, Reynolds and Brimsley, find themselves falling in love. At first, the two try to be formal toward each other, but they end up going beyond their professional relationship.

The two had to work as a team, ensuring that the King and Queen maintain a good relationship. But along the way, Brimsley and Reynolds fall in love.

But because they lived in a world where “it was still a hangable offense to be gay”, as older Brimsley actor Hugh Sachs says, they had to keep their relationship a secret.

While it may seem like Brimsley and Reynolds are in a perfect position to be with each other forever considering they have similar jobs, this was not the case.

Whenever Queen Charlotte and King George fought or had prolonged conflicts, this affected Brimsley and Reynold’s relationship too. With Charlotte and George separated, Brimsley and Reynolds would have to be separated too.

Additionally, the King’s secrets also affected their relationship. Reynolds, as a loyal servant to the King, had to keep the latter’s illness a secret.

Brimsley forces Reynolds to tell him what’s wrong so that he can help the Queen understand why her husband has been distant from her, but Reynolds refuses to tell him everything.

Later on, Brimsley tells Reynolds: “You give me nothing. You tell me nothing but lies. I ask your help, and you refuse to treat me like a partner or an equal.”

In the Bridgerton spin-off series, Brimsley and Reynolds share a bath where the former says that they could share a lifetime together just like Charlotte and George. In the final episode’s ball, Brimsley and Reynolds lovingly dance together away from the crowd.

But in present-day Bridgerton, Brimsley dances alone in the dark. We also don’t see an older version of Reynolds.

Additionally, Queen Charlotte asks Brimsley if he never married. Brimsley then responds that he never got married and “Who could I ever find who would be free to spend a lifetime with me? I am here.”

What happened to Reynolds remains a mystery, but since we see Brimsley all alone in present-day Bridgerton, it’s clear that Brimsley and Reynolds don’t end up together.

Reynolds probably passed away since we no longer see an older version of him in present-day Bridgerton. Or perhaps, his relationship with Brimsley just didn’t work out as we find out in the series that in present-day Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte and King George ended up living separately.

In the past, when George and Charlotte fought, they would live separately. Charlotte stays at Buckingham, while George stays at Kew.

This causes Brimsley and Reynolds to be away from each other. Perhaps a similar situation happens years later because ultimately, Charlotte and George live separately.

Hugh Sachs, actor of the older Brimsley told Vulture that initially, the script had a scene where Brimsley and Reynolds meet in present-day Bridgerton.

"There was a scene that we didn't film because it was cut, where I was going to meet the older Reynolds. He was the love of his life, and for whatever reason, they could not stay together. So when they would pass each other in the passageway in the deleted scene, it wasn't a toxic moment. Because of the world they inhabited, it was still a hangable offense to be gay, and it was just not possible,” Sachs shared.

But because this scene didn’t happen, the series leaves things hanging for Brimsley and Reynolds, and it’s up to the viewers to interpret what really happened to them.

However, Reynolds actor Freddie Dennis shared with Entertainment Weekly that wherever Reynolds is, he’s still in love with Brimsley.

“What we do know is that wherever Reynolds is, they still love each other very, very much. It's the one thing we held onto. You can see how much Reynolds means to Brimsley in that moment [where he's remembering]. So their love very, very much runs deep and lives on. I really hope he is not dead,” said Dennis.

We hope he’s not dead too. But even though Brimsley and Reynolds didn't end up together, at least we know that Reynolds and Brimsley are still very much in love with each other.
