National Treasure is based on the 2007’s adventure and action film led by Ben Gates, starring Nicolas Cage. Gates together with his family are intellectuals particularly in treasure hunting and decoding ancient symbols. They navigate their way in finding treasures around different locations and their adventure lasted for 2 films. Nicolas Cage was joined by an ensemble cast of Dianne Kruger, Justin Bartha, Jon Voight, Christopher Plummer, and Helen Mirren. The film was a favorite classic among Disney films because of its ‘intelligent adventurer solves puzzles’ genre that’s generally loved by fans.

In an interview with Collider, producer, Jerry Bruckheimer explained the development of the National Treasure part 3, "We're certainly working on one [National Treasure] for streaming and we're working on one for the big screen. Hopefully, they'll both come together and we'll bring you another National Treasure, but they're both very active... The one for Disney+ is a much younger cast. It's the same concept but a young cast. The one for theatrical would be the same cast."

The film’s script is reportedly done in 2010 but further development was not yet in the works. On the other side, the National Treasure spin-off TV series is being developed and already started shooting. Disney reveals Lyndon Smith, Antonio Cipriano, Zuri Reed, Jake Austin Walker, Jordan Rodriguez, and Lisette Alexís as the main star of the show.

The reported pilot episode of the show features Jess (Alexis) as an intelligent and resourceful mind who naturally loves solving puzzles. The TV show will progress as Jess unravels the mystery of her family’s buried history that ties them to a long-lost treasure.

On recent news, Disney reportedly casts Catherine Zeta-Jones as Billie, who is a ‘black-market antiquities expert, and treasure hunter who lives by her own code.’

Disney has not yet revealed the release date for the upcoming TV series, but we can expect it as early as next year.
